Micro-manipulated Probe Systems

Micro-manipulated probe systems

Janis Research offers micro-manipulated cryogenic and vacuum probe systems for chips, wafers and device testing from ~3.5 K to 675 K. The micromanipulated probe stations are designed for non-destructive electrical testing using DC, RF, and fiber-optic probes. They are useful in a variety of fields including semiconductors, MEMS, superconductivity, electronics, ferroelectrics, material science, physics and optics. Either LHe/LN2 or a mechanical closed cycle refrigerator provides cooling. Different models locate the sample in ultra-high vacuum (UHV), ultra-high temperature (to 675 K), and magnetic field.

He-3 Systems

Micro-manipulated probe systems

Achieving base temperatures below 300 mK, these systems feature innovative designs that fully integrate the He-3 insert with our high efficiency optical and non-optical cryostats. This modular approach provides significant flexibility, as the He-3 insert is matched with an optical superconducting magnet, electronic components, temperature controller and cryostat. The system performance characteristics and design features can therefore be readily tailored to precisely match individual experimental and budgetary requirements. A wide range of standard models include such features as:

  • Bottom-loading or top-loading of samples
  • Samples located in high/ultra high vacuum, He-3 exchange gas or liquid He-3
  • Optical and non-optical experimental environment
  • Single shot or continuous circulation operation
  • Cryogen-free cooling
  • Application specific models for NMR experiments, Scanning Probe Microscopy, ESR/EPR and neutron diffraction

Dilution Refrigerators

With a recognized reputation as a world wide leader in custom dilution refrigerator systems, Janis Research Company now offers a family of standardized dilution refrigerator (DR) systems and stand-alone DR cores and stages with competitive prices, fast delivery, optimized design, and proven techniques. The systems can be equipped with either manual or automated gas handling systems, as well as a number of optional items. Cryogen free systems are also available.

Superconducting Magnet Systems

Superconducting Magnet Systems

Janis Research's renowned SuperVariMag, OptiMag and SuperOptiMag systems offer temperatures between 1.5 K and 325 K (with options to 475 K or higher), and can be supplied with or without optical access. The Janis Research SuperMag series can achieve base temperatures to 0.3 K (He-3) or into the milliKelvin range (dilution systems). Our NbTi systems offer magnetic fields between 5 and 9 Tesla with optional Lambda point refrigerators for reaching higher fields, while our Nb3Sn magnets offer fields of 17 Tesla and beyond. Ultra low loss variable temperature systems are offered for temperatures between 0.3 K to 300 K. Existing Janis Research magnet system designs include:

  • Standard top loading systems with samples in helium vapor
  • UHV compatible systems with split magnets and solenoids
  • Systems for Scanning Probe, Atomic Force and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

Cryostats for Spectroscopy and Electrical Measurements

LN-2 cryostats

Continuous flow cryostats are supplied with a specially designed high efficiency transfer line, and operate by continuously transferring liquid helium (or liquid nitrogen) from a storage dewar. Continuous flow cryostats feature fast cool-down, and are available in either sample in vacuum, flowing vapor or exchange gas configurations.

Reservoir cryostat

Janis SuperVariTemp reservoir cryostats have built-in helium and nitrogen reservoirs, and nearly all models feature fast sample exchange. With low operating liquid helium consumption, they are the ideal choice for experiments that require the long-term cooling of samples.

LN-2 cryostats

Janis liquid nitrogen cooled cryostats are inexpensive and simple to use, and provide a convenient cryogenic sample environment for a wide range of experiments. The VPF series cryostats locate the sample in vacuum, and operate from 65 K up to 500 K, 700 K or 800 K, depending on the model chosen. The VNF-100 cryostat locates the sample in flowing vapor, and operates from 60 K to 325 K.

Closed Cycle Refrigerators

Janis Research closed cycle refrigerators (CCR) systems provide low temperature environments (as low as 2.7 K) without the need for liquid helium or nitrogen. As a result, these systems are simple to operate and inexpensive to maintain. CCR models are available in both sample in vacuum and sample in exchange gas (top loading) configurations. Because only the cryogen required for the duration of the experiment is used, they make an excellent choice for short-term experiments.
