Acquisition of Constelex Technology Enablers

Gooch & Housego PLC, the specialist manufacturer of optical components & systems, announces that it has completed the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of Constelex Technology Enablers Limited (Constelex), an Athens, Greece, based designer and manufacturer of advanced photonic systems.

The acquisition of Constelex is aligned with G&H’s strategic objective of moving up the value chain by leveraging its leadership in components to develop a higher-added-value capability at the sub-systems and systems level. In February this year G&H established the Systems Technology Group (STG) at its Torquay, UK, facility to function as a separate business unit with a remit to design, develop and prototype systems-level products. The objective was to build a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in mechanical, electronic and software design and modelling and to integrate these technologies with G&H’s expertise in photonics.

The acquisition of Constelex represents a significant expansion of the capabilities of the STG and will enable G&H to make a unique and invaluable contribution to the ESA Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) European Component Initiative. As a result, G&H is well positioned to fulfill its objective of becoming a global leader in space photonics, with design and manufacturing of space qualified hardware in both the USA and EU.

G&H has recently increased office space and manufacturing capacity at the Torquay plant to accommodate the growing STG and meet increased demand for its products. The company was proud to welcome Dr Vince Cable, the British Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills to open the new facilities. Dr Cable visited G&H with local MP Adrian Sanders earlier this month as part of a tour of innovative businesses in the Torbay area.
