TSB Funding Competition: Manufacturing Electronic Systems of the Future

The Technology Strategy Board is about to launch a £4.75m competition stimulating innovation and growth in electronics manufacturing.

Over £4.5M funding available for project.

The competition aligns with, and builds upon, the findings of the recent ESCO report to government.

Full details of the competition are available by clicking here

Technology Strategy Board will fund Collaborative R&D projects and Feasibility Study projects that explore novel manufacturing processes leading to new ways of making products in the future. Early exploitation of these processes should improve competitiveness by enhancing functionality, reducing size or cost, adapting form or enabling rapid scale-up.

Companies intending to bid on the competition can apply for additional funding to help define their project by applying for The Design Option.

Example topics for projects:

  • ways to manufacture electronics, sensors and photonics for hostile environments
  • integration of printed electronics with conventional electronics
  • methods of manufacturing complex flexible substrates for high-density electronics
  • in-built intelligence to enhance the manufacturing process
  • methods of embedding sensors, high-tolerance components or electronics into structures and/or materials
  • test instruments & techniques to eliminate R&D-intensive activities from manufacturing process
  • manufacturing techniques for high-density assembly or 3-D integration
  • methods to integrate bespoke devices with conventional surface-mount assembly

There are a series of Information Events being organised that will:

  • Provide information on the themes of the upcoming competition
  • Provide details of the Design Option and how to apply
  • Encourage brokerage and networking with a view to establishing strong proposals
